1544-FA26A: Entering Grades 6-7 1544-FA26B: Entering Grade 8 Get ready to elevate your game! Our Girls Middle School Basketball program is all about building strong fundamentals and boosting confidence on the court, this program is a recreation/competitive league designed for all skill levels. Players will focus on key skills like dribbling with both hands, proper shooting form, sharp passing, and more. We'll also introduce advanced concepts such as offensive and defensive strategies, court positioning, and a deeper understanding of the rules. Whether you're new to the game or looking to improve, this is the place to grow and compete! All practices and games take place at Forest Lake Area Middle School (FLAMS). This program is designed as a recreational course centered on skill development and in-house competition. Organized games will include referees, with teams competing against one another on campus rather than traveling to other schools. Please note: Registration ends October 13th at 11:59pm. Has your child been curious about sewing or wanted to make fun creations? Even if they’ve never used a sewing machine before, this is a great opportunity to learn the craft. They’ll learn how to thread a sewing machine and sew a straight line as well as techniques for machine handling that are frustrating to figure out on their own. They are welcome to and may find it helpful to bring their own sewing machine if it is in good working order. This class will be required before attending other sewing classes.

Prerequisite: Participants must be able to swim 25 continuous yards of front and back crawl or passed Level 4. This swimming program is designed to help athletes of all levels—both novice and advanced—develop efficient and fast swimming skills. In addition to performance training, the coaching staff promotes overall physical fitness, motivation, self-discipline, self-esteem and self-confidence. The program provides a supportive and challenging environment where athletes are encouraged to reach their highest potential while enjoying the sport. Workouts are adapted to accommodate a wide range of swimming abilities.

En Guarde! Fencing is a sport of strategy, skill, decision making and athleticism unlike any other; not to mention it’s rich in history and tradition! Train and compete in the fastest growing youth sport in the country! Chisago Lakes and Forest Lake Community Education programs have combined to build this dynamic team of competitive fencers. Represent your school while fencing for Minnesota Sword Play, coached by Kailan Benford. Experienced and beginner fencers are welcome. The competitive season runs October - February, includes 4-5 optional tournaments and provides an opportunity to fence against athletes from all over Minnesota. Participants are responsible for purchasing regulation approved electronic equipment (for competition only, practice equipment provided) and for all tournament fees and transportation. Come to our informational meeting Tuesday, October 28 at Forest View Elementary Media Center. Practice will be held 2x per week at Forest View Cafeteria or FLAS Education Center Cafeteria (5:30-7:30pm on Tuesday evenings) and Chisago Lakes WCC (3-5pm on Saturday afternoons).

The best Water Safety Instructors (WSI) often begin as Water Safety Aides (WSA). This course is designed for teens who have successfully completed Level 6 and are interested in working at an aquatic facility as a WSA, with the potential to later earn certification as a WSI. Students will gain hands-on experience by practice-teaching alongside a certified WSI, learning how to lead a swimming lesson from start to finish. During the course, WSA participants will assist with and practice-teach beginner-level classes, including Turtles, Bobbers, Little Swimmers and Levels 1–3.

FLAMS 7th Grade Experience: Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center (3-Day Trip) This trip is only available to FLAMS full time students. Get ready for an unforgettable three-day journey to the spectacular Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center. Located near the Boundary Waters, Wolf Ridge’s 2,000-acre campus is the ultimate outdoor classroom. This trip combines hands-on science, outdoor adventure and team-building in one of the most beautiful settings in Minnesota. This isn't just a field trip; it's a growth experience. Confidence & Independence: Staying in dorms and managing their own gear helps students build self-reliance in a safe, supported environment. STEM in Action: Science comes alive when you can touch, see, and experience the concepts learned in the classroom. Teamwork & Bonding: Shared challenges on the ropes course and living together in dorms forge deeper friendships and stronger peer connections. Digital Detox: Students unplug from screens to reconnect with nature and each other. Trip Highlights & Activities: A typical 7th-grade experiences include activities such as: High Adventure: Build confidence and trust on the Adventure Ropes Course (30 feet in the air!) or the indoor Rock Climbing Wall. Hands-On Ecology: Step into waders for a Stream Study, track wildlife in Animal Signs, or learn wilderness navigation with Orienteering. Cultural History: Experience life as a fur trader in the immersive Voyageur Life class. Evening Programs: The fun continues after sundown with night hikes, campfires, or astronomy sessions. Accommodations & Meals: Students will stay in comfortable, modern dormitory lodges with private bathrooms and showers. Nutritious, kid-friendly meals are provided in the Fireplace Dining Room, featuring ingredients from the on-campus organic farm.
